Cividis

Summary

Cividis is a sequential colormap from matplotlib. Lightness rises monotonically from 0.26 to 0.92, hue sweeps 176° from blue to chartreuse, and order holds under all three colorblind simulations.

CVD-optimized sequential; Nuñez, Anderton, Renslow 2018.

Perceptual profile (OKLCh)

• Lightness: 0.260 → 0.921 (range 0.661, min 0.260, max 0.921); monotonic; midpoint 0.583
• Chroma: min 0.000, max 0.179, mean 0.072
• Hue: 256.1° → 101.7° (span 175.6°), path folded; quadrants: blue, violet, chartreuse
• Endpoint temperature: cool → warm
• Perceptual ΔE: total 87.3, mean/step 0.343, max step 0.450, smoothness 0.862, speed 0.343

Colorblind safety (ΔE under simulated CVD)

• Protanopia: ΔE total 86.0; preserves order: yes
• Deuteranopia: ΔE total 88.4; preserves order: yes
• Tritanopia: ΔE total 76.2; preserves order: yes
